Flaunt your true smile!

  • There must be no cheese. All too often, you will hear the person behind the camera order everyone to say “cheese”. Do you feel that the smile produced by “cheese” is the best smile you put forth? Or genuine? Most likely than not! For a genuine appearance that evokes your raw and real emotions, just be yourself! You will hear me say the most ridiculous things to you while we are on set, like “look like you’re about to surprise Big Foot”. You can try to get that look, but I guarantee you will end up laughing and that’s when I’ll be snapping the winning shot. Camera time is play time when it’s a headshot! Relax, let your natural smile beam, and let your eyes radiate with confidence. I always guide my clients through their photoshoot, how to move, and which way to pose, so that their true emotions are the prominent feature of each and every photo.

Occupy your mind to assist in acting natural

  • You can start a task. It’s very easy for your mind to stop as soon as you step in front of the camera. It can be similar to writer’s block, but for those modeling. There is a way to get your creative flow moving. Think of a task that you can do, such as playing with your hair, twirling, or jumping. These tasks will help you loosen up and give your hands something to do. You will then be able to showcase a more real appearance. Just being yourself is the best way to highlight emotions that are anything but fake.

Think of thoughts to help you showcase your desired look

  • Just the right thoughts. Your thoughts can be very powerful. Just thinking of the right situation can allow you to feel the same emotions you would if you were really present for that event. For example, if you are hoping to create an excited appearance, you can imagine one of your happiest and most surprising memories, or even recall a moment within books or movies that you deeply connected with. These exciting moments will bring that appearance to your face. It will even be believable. You can use your memories, or imagination, to assist you in evoking the emotions that you want.

Here at Christina Wehbe Studios, as a portrait photographer in Chicago, I believe that emotions are what will make your photos more relatable and leave your audience in awe. These tips can help you display your desired expressions, within your own Chicago portraits.
