- How You Should Look Within Your Passport Photo. There are a few requirements that must be followed when capturing your passport photo. When you step in front of the camera, keep these things in mind; face the camera directly with your full face in view, maintain a neutral expression or a natural smile, keep both eyes open, and wear clothing that you would normally wear. Also, if you wear glasses, be sure that you take them off before your picture is taken. Head coverings are not permitted within your photo unless it is for religious or medical purposes. If this is the case, be sure to submit a signed statement or doctor’s note.
- The Format for Your Passport Photo. Of course, there are size and format requirements for your passport photo. For sizing, it must be 2×2 inches, and your head must be between 1 – 1 3/8 inches from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. The background is also a key element that must meet requirements. A plain white or off-white background is required. Your photo must be printed in color, on matte or glossy photo quality paper. Remember, if you are applying for a passport, you must use a photo that has been taken in the last six months.
- More Than Just a Pass Out of the Country. While a passport is certainly needed to travel out of the country, there are many other important reasons to have a passport. A passport also allows you to re-enter the United States. There are even more reasons to invest in a passport, such as a valid identification that is undeniable, as well as proof of citizenship.
